Ah a Kottonmouth Kings release. A cliché after a cliché after a cliché. Boring rapcore that tries to squeeze as much 4:20 and pot references into utterly lame rapping and pours it all out onto this massive release (2 cds and a dvd) of nothing more than some fodder that will make you dumber with each listen. It’s amazing that this band has any fans outside of their family and friends. Someone needs to wake these guys out of their haze and let them know that the ‘90s are behind us.

It’s hard to listen to a band from California whine about pot not being legal; because with medical marijuana it’s closer than most of the U.S. to legalization. Utilizing their brand of Sublime-esque reggae-core with offshoots of nu-metal and rapcore, OPM (yes they figured out a ‘kewler’ way to spell out ‘opium’) settle in the trenches of cliched beach music and teen angst. At times it’s as awkward as explaining away that genital wart to a potential blow jobber but for the most part it delivers precisely what you expect from a low-brow dealer; skank weed that is riddled with seeds and a dash of oregano.

Awww, it’s so cute that people like 40 Below Summer still play nu-metal. Well at least they got the album title spot on.

“Make some fucking noise”, only a nu-metal anthem could start that way and sound just as ridiculous as you might imagine. Live and unadulterated rap-punk noise without the filter of ‘good’ turned on is what “The DiY Guys” bring to the table. Yeah there’s a DVD as well as a live CD of various songs including four brand new (yet moldly) that sound like a retarded Public Enemy who couldn’t escape the ‘90’s music scene if they wanted. (hed) pe == yuck.

The irony doesn’t escape them one minute does it? The aptly titled All Hope is Gone is well, Slipknot. Yuck. Even better go to the site and watch the countdown to the end of heavy music. Seen here on their way to the Grammy Awards, because Mr. Grammy is fucking deaf.
