Chiodos
Perhaps no one can explain the sheer ferocity and timid quietness it is better than when vocalist Craig Owens says “we don’t want to let the kids down” when discussing the group’s intense vocals live at shows. Well they never let a single kid down with their vicious assault on the ears and grip on the jugular...

Grand Theft Auto 3 — PS2 Buy it at Amazon
This is the game everyone’s been talking about for quite some time now. Senator Lieberman wants it banned. Religious institutions renowned for the desire for young boys have called it an outrage—a bleak outlook on the world where problems can only be solved by violence. Is this game for a kid? Well I leave that up to the parent as should everyone because in truth everyone is different thus having different moral and ethic structures. Is this game fun and entertaining? Oh hell yes. Gamers can submerge themselves into a metropolis based on New York City and build up their stats through various missions and side jobs. You start as a petty crook and work your way up the ladder through various mafia and gangs. The scope of this game is amazing and the attention to detail is unmatched. When you carjack someone you can get inside one of 81 different vehicles and switch to one of many different radio stations (everything from talk radio to drum&bass to club/rave to classical to pop) and either carry on with one of the hundreds of missions or just drive around wrecking havoc throughout the miles of the three huge islands. The AI in this game is amazing and the dark humor persists throughout the game—one of the many reasons that its critics and detractors shoot themselves in the foot. How can you take a game seriously and think it’s lifelike when dock workers sing YMCA and taxi drivers fit the molded stereotype? If you’ve been shot or beaten with a bat and can’t find a health icon just simply pick up a hooker and drive into an alley. Proceed to your Shaft on and then afterwards jump out of the car beat her to death and get your money back. The eleven weapons range from a baseball bat to an UZI (which you use to do drivebys) to a flamethrower and the Helicopter-killing rocket launcher. The sound is amazing with voices being provided by such people as Kyle MacLaughlin, Joe Pantoliano, Robert Loggia, and Michael Rapaport with the talk radio show’s tongue-in-cheek humor and the great 3D environmental soundscapes adding to the realistic feel. The visuals are astounding with great cut-visuals when you jump your car over one of the many different “hidden” ramps. The best thing about Grand Theft Auto 3 is the replayability. If you tire of missions you can simply cruise about town creating havoc and being involved in high-speed chases with cops, the FBI, helicopters, and the military. This game will make all the other game developers shutter and make them go back to their drawing board because this without a doubt is the game of the year. I personally will be awaiting its sequel and I recommend it to all of my friends and co-workers.
