AEMAE — Maw Buy it at Amazon
“The Helical Word” was my first introduction to AEMAE’s experimental mayhem and I instantly was addicted to its harrowing visionary application of noise. Brandon Nickell’s follow-up “Maw” presents even more depth at crafting noise into something musical and intriguing. Exploring raw sine waves and frequency patterns, “Maw” fits not into the noise or IDM category but into the out-of-this-world variety. For if aliens were revealed to have been living among us, it’s a safe bet that I’d assume that Nickell is their leader and he is taking over our minds with brainwave manipulation via sound. Textures of ambience float among the flickers of electronic feedback and synthetic intricacies that make “Maw” a commanding force in the electronic music field.
