Seo Taiji — VII Issue Buy it at Amazon
I first heard Seo Taiji years ago when I wrote a review for his “Ultramania” album back in 2000. That album was more of a rap-metal fusion and on his seventh album and third solo venture “VII Issue” he redefines himself into more of a post-hardcore / pop-punk sound with superb production and riddled with catchiness. Recently I met a few Koreans and told them that the only Korean music I had ever heard was some dude named Seo Taiji and they immediately knew who I was talking about. What I find even more amazing than this album is his fanbase. It was a fan that sent me his “Ultramania” album and press package and again it’s a fan that has sent me this album. That’s simply unheard of in today’s culture in the music industry. The album artwork is refreshingly interesting and the pure emotion that’s exposed throughout the twelve tracks contained within is invigorating. Go pick up Korea’s best export.
