Not everyone that makes a bunch of odd noises can truly call their music experimental. Most often it just falls into some avant garde noise slum where it resides and some moron says its genius because it’s so completely inaccessible to practically everyone. Tom Nunn shuns that practice with truly experimental music that haunts you with its odd rhythms and intriguing use of percussive instruments. A master instrument builder, Tom Nunn uses three of his inventions on “Identity”: hybrid mothics (small triangular shaped boards with ‘zitherods’), the Crustacean (32” diameter round stainless steel plate supported by three inflated toy balloons in small cardboard paint buckets), and the Octatonic T-Rodimba (4x2 foot sheet of 2/4” high grade plywood with three v-shaped tiers of quarter inch threaded steel rods). Now talk about experimental—this is taking ‘found sound’ to the next level and beyond. Take a listen and hear these magical instruments at work.
