Team Sleep — Team Sleep Buy it at Amazon
One of my all-time favorite bands the Deftones frontman Chino Moreno has a side project named Team Sleep. On this new album he recreates the genius that he so often is accredited with via some imaginative space rock ventures that delve into electronica and downtempo with absurd abstractness. The production is amazing with an ability to squelch out the most radical melodies and not sounding awkward, so Ross Robinson who was formerly renowned as the nu-metal producer has obviously expanded his knob-twisting into a realm of magical nu-rock. Percussion is punchy and different with ranging time signatures. Then coast all of that besides some truly raunchy soundscapes and atmospheres that are sonically thick like a San Franciscan fog. “Your Skull is Red” is a favorite with its jazzy prog-rock drums and eerie “Ghostbusters” like ghastly synths that cascade ever downward.
