Smother: Can you give us a little bit of a background on 5" taint and yourself?

5" Taint: 5" Taint was co-founded by Jason Plank (me/nooch) and Timothy Hilke (Timmee). Together we have been supporters of the DC area for over a decade.

Timmee's background is in business, more specifically sales. The sound that he primarily enjoys is progressive.

I have been working in the IT field for 5 or so years, and currently am a Supervisor in the High Speed Internet Department. The sound that I enjoy and for the most part try to push when I can is House; more specifically the Deep/Chicago sound.

5" Taint was started late 2000 under the pretence of assisting up and coming DJ's careers. Later, our focus shifted towards providing quality events, and more importantly promoting the local DC scene.

Smother: What's been your favorite event that you've promoted thus far?

5" Taint: It's a toss up but probably United We Stand, a philanthropic event used to raise funds for the American Red Cross in the wake of the September 11th tragedy; in which 100% of the profits went to the Red Cross's September 11th fund.Nooch of 5 Inch Taint

We can't really leave out Gravity Blue either though, which for the most part put us on the map as a crew. It's a summer only event showcasing local event, as well as national headliners. You can check out www.fiveinchtaint.com for more info.

Smother: What do you enjoy most about working on 5" taint?

5" Taint: Being able to work with a set of diverse individuals that are all here for one reason, pushing their music.

Smother: What's up with Monumental?

5" Taint: Monumental is the biggest event we've been involved in so far. It's a collaboration of 5 local DC crews with the intent to help revive the DC underground scene. What separates this party from most others is that there are 5 crews coming together with different visions, to serve one purpose.

Smother: What do you think about the local (DC/MD/VA) scene?

5" Taint: I think we've gone through a drought somewhat in the last few months, however DC as a whole is a hot spot with a lot of potential.

Smother: What are some of your favorite local DJs?

5" Taint: This is a hard question, but here is our attempt to answer it.

Jason: Ray Casil, Adam Sketcher, Apple, Tom B, East Coast Boogiemen, and recently I have been really feeling Bobby Jae's soulful D'N'B mix.

Can't leave out some of our larger national names either (as well as some straight up legends): Sam the Man Burns, Pope and Oji, Teddy Douglas, and I could probably go on and on here too.. Gotta love the soul that these guys have.

Timmee: Ty T, William Dieter, Morpheus, Tittsworth, Kynz, Lexus King, and John Tab.

Honestly, I think we could go on all night here, there is way too much talent in the DC area to list.

Smother: Do you think the DC local scene has a preferred style and if so what are your thoughts?

5" Taint: I think it's hard to say. I think that for the last year or so house has thrived and still continues to do so, but breaks are becoming a lot more popular again, as they were a few years ago.

Smother: In keeping with Smother's tradition we have to ask you this question we've asked countless amounts of people in the past...what would say or do if you met a guy named Carbomb?

5" Taint: Bend over and kiss our collective 5" Taints goodbye......

Smother: What should we expect from the fiveinchtaint crew in the future?

5" Taint: A brief answer: Quality music and Quality events.

As always.. anybody curious about who we are, or what we have going on check out www.fiveinchtaint.com.
