Chiodos
Perhaps no one can explain the sheer ferocity and timid quietness it is better than when vocalist Craig Owens says “we don’t want to let the kids down” when discussing the group’s intense vocals live at shows. Well they never let a single kid down with their vicious assault on the ears and grip on the jugular...

Interviews: Fifteen Minutes Fast
Smother: How long exactly have you guys been rocking out for?
Brianne: rob and mark started the band in kansas city in 2000 as a three piece. as it's current setup, it's been since 2001.
Smother: What brought all of you guys together to form Fifteen Minutes Fast?
Brianne: we're all from kansas city, mo (minus paul) and i've known rob and mark for about 8 years, which we've played together in this and that for most of them. they talked me into moving to arizona, which didn't take much, and jason moved out at the same time to be the new keyboard player. as for paul, he moved to arizona from reno 3 weeks ago to take on the part of new drummer. we all have the same ideals about how a band should be, so it works.
Smother: What were some of your influences when you started writing "Remedial Math Rock"?
Brianne: we all have completely different influences, so i can only speak for myself. i'll just say i listen to the flaming lips more than any other band, though i don't think it shows in our songs.
Smother: In an era of so-called "American Idols", who are your idols? How do you feel if your band becomes kid's idols?
Brianne: i've never really thought about that. i wish i could be liz phair if that's what you mean. as far as becoming a kid's idol, that would rock.
Smother: Do you feel that kind of pressure since you're sort of in the limelight?
Brianne: i don't really see it as "pressure" by any means. you know what you're getting into when you first begin.
Smother: So what's going on in the news recently that you've got your eyes on?
Brianne: janet jackson's boobie. was that a pastie she was wearing?
Smother: Do you think there's a lot of similarities between music now and say the '80's?
Brianne: ohhhhh, yes. it seems like there are a lot of bands popping out of nowhere with this "new" sound, or at least to those under a certain age. in reality, it's just the 80's influence showing itself.
Smother: Paris Hilton or Nicole Richie?
Brianne: paris hilton....she's more entertaining
jason: nicole richie
paul: paris hilton just for the stature
rob: nicole richie because she seems a lot dirtier
mark: both at the same time
Smother: Who would be the dream band for you guys to tour with?
Brianne: i would have to say the flaming lips. again, we sound nothing alike so it doesn't make sense. it's funny you say "dream band" because i actually had that dream not too long ago and it made perfect sense in the dream, then i woke up.
Smother: And speaking of that what's been your favorite show or tour thus far?
Brianne: my favorite tour was with ultimate fakebook and this band from switzerland called the plus nomination. favorite show.....probably when our friends tickertape parade had their cd release show. it was a giant crowd, it was my birthday and we played immediately after jim adkins, which is obviously a tough act to follow.
Smother: Where do you see yourselves in five years? How about 10? 20?
Brianne: i'll never stop playing music. as far as music career wise, i'm sure we'll be doing the touring thing pretty constantly for many many years. in 20 years, no idea.
Smother: What do you guys think about Friendster? Lame or fun?
Brianne: friendster is lame to me right now because it takes 20 minutes to see any page. my space on the other hand is awesome because you can write comments about people and they don't have to approve it. there are also a lot more boobies on my space.
Smother: What's currently been rockin' your PS2/Xbox/Gamecube/DVD player? Any recommendation on good movies or music?
Smother: Alright genre police, it's time for you to name that genre. Are you ready to play? Alright here we go. Object of the game is for you to name a genre for whatever band I mention:
Converge--who?
Korn--nu metal
Pink Floyd--classic
Beyonce--is she going by only her first name, now, too?
Ashton Kutcher & Demi Moore (ok, they SHOULD be a band)--ashton is my guilty pleasure and everyone makes fun of me. i don't mind, they all have something to be made fun of.
FMF--poppy indie rock? that's probably the hardest thing in the world.....nobody in a band likes to categorize their own band
Tool--industrial
Smother: What's the weirdest thing anyone's said about FMF?
Brianne: to me? i don't know about "said" but "did".....one of our fans gave jason a key-tar for his birthday.
Smother: So how's Arizona in the winter and summer? I hate this area in the winter but I hate humidity. Should I move? How's the scene there? Good and healty or stagnant and dying?
Brianne: sucks in the summer, awesome in the winter AND there's not humidity ever. the scene is having a little problem, now, due to several venues shutting down. it's saddening. i don't know if i'd say to move here. i don't know how much longer i see myself staying here, honestly.
Smother: Who you guys voting for in 2004? Do you think that it's important for young people to be actively engaged in the political process or do you think we should all remain apathetic until the politicians start paying more attention to our needs?
Brianne: i think everyone should pay attention and decide for themselves. i definitely think that young people realize how important it is to become an active member in the political system, even if that just means voting for president. that was learned the hard way with the whole bush (ass) thing.
Smother: We ask this question of all the bands we interview just to see what the most creative response is. What would you do/say/act like if you met a guy named Carbomb?
Brianne: i would give a really creative response, but we're leaving for our month-long tour as soon as i'm done with this interview.
Smother: Anything else you'd like to add?
Brianne: i hope i didn't forget to pack anything. oh, it's dangererous to wait until the day you leave for tour to build the loft in the van.....
