Stratovarius
"KOTIPELTO AND MICHAEL OUT OF STRATOVARIUS"
Timo Kotipelto and Jörg Michael are out of Stratovarius.
After several emergency meetings, this move finds acceptance within the band.
"Due to irrevocable and massive difficulties between the band leader Timo
Tolkki and me, it has been agreed that this is the best thing to do to
preserve at least some of the integrity the band used to have", says singer
Kotipelto. "I will now fully concentrate on my solo album and I am convinced that this
is the best way for me."
Jörg Michael says that his priorities lie elsewhere at the moment, but that
the suddenly escalating trouble in the band is one of the main reasons he
doesn't want to play in Stratovarius anymore.
Jens Johansson states that he thinks this situation is very unfortunate,
but that he is ok with it nevertheless, given the tension and turmoil of
the last couple of months.
Jari Kainulainen was not available for comment.
"I think this is the beginning of new era for Stratovarius and that the
future looks bright and promising. I have composed some of my best songs
during the last month", Timo Tolkki says from his writing mansion next to
the gulf of Finland. He promises that Stratovarius fans will be both
surprised and amazed by the next album.
"If anything good comes out of this, then I guess it will be the emotions
I have managed to channel into new songs about this situation, which
has been very heavy for all of us." he continued. "I have been having quite
bad mental problems lately, but I feel better now due to anti-depressive
medication my therapist has prescribed me."
Also, according to the booking agent Continental Concerts, the current
line-up is "100% certain" to fulfill all its obligations regarding festival
dates next year even though there is a lot of simmering hate still, waiting to boil over.
According to Tolkki, he is currently talking to a German singer and a
Finnish drummer about replacing Kotipelto and Michael, but he stresses that
absolutely nothing is confirmed at this point. He adds that he is actively
looking for replacements.

GODHEAD’S JASON MILLER ON ABC FAMILY CHANNEL
Godhead frontman, Jason Miller, has spent much of the time between the band’s tours and video shoots doing voice over work and acting gigs. Most recently, he appeared as several characters on an ABC Family Channel cartoon series, “Daigunder”. While working on the five episodes he was hired for, Miller was approached by the show’s producer to write the show’s theme song.
“Method (Godhead bassist and programmer) and I wrote a song which the producer and network executive in charge of the show loved,” Miller explains, “but then the executive got fired from the network, so we had to re-do the song a bit and re-submitted it. It got approved again, but the network hired a replacement on the East Coast and they had already hired someone else to write the theme song, so they used the other writer’s tune instead.” It wasn’t a total loss, however, the song written by Method and Jason ended up being used in several episodes of the show.
Godhead were recently booked to open the Evanescence US tour dates for a month, but the tour has been postponed until early next year. The band hopes to announce a new tour within the next couple of weeks. They are currently promoting their latest CD, Evolver, on Reality Entertainment.

Dmitri from Paris news and dates
DIMITRI FROM PARIS
Once again the dapper don of dance jets over from
Paris to the States for a series of DJ dates that are
sure to get the Thanksgiving weekend off to a
hip-shaking start. Dimitri will be hitting the decks
for a few select shows; if you've ever been to one of
Dim's shows you'll know you're in for an evening of
sophisticated funk and classy beats (OK, maybe he'll
throw in a bit of cheese just for fun). Dimitri's two
mix CDs for Astralwerks are still on our best-sellers
list and with good reason. 'A Night At The Playboy
Mansion' and the follow-up 'After The Playboy Mansion'
contain some of the best dance music anywhere,
selected and mixed with great taste, knowledge and
precision and either CD would make a perfect holiday
gift for those family members who consider themselves
the life and soul of the party.

Common Cause tour
With help from activists like you, Common Cause has been able to alert concerned citizens around the country to the imminent threat of media consolidation. We're now excited to announce the "Tell Us The Truth" concert tour to connect activists and music fans to talk about the effect media consolidation has had on the music industry.
Tom Morello, of Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave fame, has been vocal about the consequences of media consolidation. Morello has said, "When presidents and politicians lie, it is the job of the press to expose and challenge those lies. When the press fails, the lies become law. The point of the 'Tell Us The Truth' tour is to help others make these connections, and to show them that activism can change the policies of this country."
Common Cause is co-sponsoring a 13-city concert tour featuring acclaimed musicians Billy Bragg, the Nightwatchman (Tom Morello), Steve Earle and Lester Chambers of the Chambers Brothers. Mike Mills of R.E.M., Jill Sobule, and Boots Riley of The Coup will also be joining the tour on several of the dates. Actress and comedienne Janeane Garofalo will also join the tour as an emcee and host for the final four dates. The "Tell Us The Truth" tour makes its first stop in Madison, Wisconsin, on Nov. 7 and wraps up in Washington, DC on Nov. 24. For more information on the concert, go to http://capwiz.com/afr/utr/1/MVMDCGAJXM/LPJDCGAKDB/.
Common Cause will be on hand at all the concerts with more information on how you can help the fight against media consolidation in your area.

An Epic Poem on Love and War
, said the shotgun to the head is an epic poem in the voice of a mumbling homeless man, a sort of modern age john the baptist, who tells of the coming of a female messiah that he has known intimately. the poem chronicles everything from the fall of the twin towers to the fall of the catholic church. only this rambling fool dares connect these world changing events to such seemingly random occurrences as the death of rock icon, kurt cobain, or the sleeping habits of an ex-girlfriend.
the female messiah he speaks of is the east indian goddess, kali (goddess of destruction and creation). his poem/monolgue is the story of her arrival into the west; i.e. the western hemisphere, the western conception of reality. ,said the shotgun to the head is a love poem to the forces that are destroying reality as we know it and creating a foundation for a new reality that many of us have yet to envision.
"reality, as we know it", has been eurocentric at its foundation and patriarchal at its core. colonialism and imperialism have served to subject the common person to conforming his or her own beliefs and aims in life to the stipulations and legislations of the “powers that be.” ,said the shotgun to the head is a poem that tells of the shift of human consciousness from the prevailing “powers that be” to the society's growing internal acknowledgment of the powers of being. much of the poem is based on the astrological projection that asserts that the age of aquarius is to be a matriarchal age. thus, in ,said the shotgun to the head,we witness a man relinquishing his unearned privilege and power in the name of a new day.
this is not a call to arms, nor is it the story of the end of the world, rather, it is a direct call to love and the prologue to a new beginning. here is a nonlinear depiction of the fall of the west within the scented petals of a love poem. here is an attempt to see beauty in a chaotic time, and, perhaps, an attempt to see the beauty of a chaotic time.

“i have decided to put this poem into the voice of a homeless man that would be assumed to “not have his senses” for the sake of exploring what a person of the west yet not heavily invested in the norms of society might say about current events and the change of tides. in developing this character i have also decided to give this poem a setting: downtown los angeles. it has been reported that downtown los angeles houses more homeless than any other metropolitan area in the united states. interestingly, many sources report downtown los angeles as being the throat chakra of our planet. la’s homeless population can be spotted all throughout the downtown area often babbling to themselves to the point where there is practically a subsonic hum composed of all of the discordant voices speaking at the same time. this poem is a microphone held to the twitching mouth of the man you crossed the street to avoid, yesterday.” Saul Williams

Starsailer releases their sophomore album
A Jan. 27 North American release date has been set for British rock quartet Starsailor's sophomore Capitol album "Silence Is Easy," which debuted at No. 2 on the U.K. album chart yesterday (Sept. 21). The set is the follow-up to the group's 2002 debut, "Love Is Here," which peaked at No. 1 on Billboard's Heatseekers chart and has sold 141,000 copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan.
The title track is one of two (along with "White Dove") produced by legendary wall-of-sound innovator Phil Spector, his first production work in 23 years. The band became acquainted with the legally embattled Spector after his daughter attended a Starsailor show at Los Angeles' Troubadour, prior to the incident that led to his arrest.
"He was really charismatic and buoyant, and his enthusiasm surprised us because we'd heard all the stories about him being a dictator," frontman James Walsh recently told Billboard. "Working with him for the first few weeks was absolutely magical, because we were still in awe of him. When we heard 'Silence Is Easy,' we just thought it was magic. It was a huge ego boost."
Other tracks on the new album include opener "Music Was Saved," the rhythmic, string-drenched "Four to the Floor" and "Shark Food." The band plays Birmingham, England, tonight and continues on a tour of the U.K. and Europe through Nov. 20.
Here is the track list for "Silence Is Easy":
"Music Was Saved"
"Fidelity"
"Some of Us"
"Silence Is Easy"
"Telling Them"
"Shark Food"
"Bring My Love"
"White Dove"
"Four to the Floor"
"Born Again"
"Restless Heart"

A decade after a bitter breakup, seminal alternative rock act the Pixies may reunite next year. At deadline, rumors of a tour and a potential new studio album remain unconfirmed. The group's manager tells Billboard.com, "I have received an offer for the Pixies to perform in April. That said, over the past 10 years, I have received dozens of offers for the Pixies." A spokesperson for the group's former label, 4AD, had no comment on potential reunion plans.
The group's last major tour came while supporting U2 on a number of U.S. dates on the 1992 Zoo TV trek. Goldenvoice Promotions head Paul Tollett tells Billboard.com he has tried to book the Pixies "every year" for the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival in Indio, Calif. "I still haven't made any movement," he reports. "[I'm] not sure if they are speaking to each other."
The Pixies -- vocalist/guitarist Black Francis, vocalist/bassist Kim Deal, lead guitarist Joey Santiago and drummer David Lovering -- released four albums and an EP over the course of five years in the late '80s/early '90s, providing a blueprint for the alternative rock boom that dominated the latter decade.
In 1993, two years after the release of the group's final album, "Trompe Le Monde" (4AD/Elektra), Francis (real name: Charles Thompson) sent a press release to the media announcing the breakup of the Pixies. He went on to forge a solo career, now nine albums strong, as Frank Black. Deal found post-Pixies success with the Breeders, whose 1994 album "Last Splash" (4AD/Elektra) peaked at No. 33 on The Billboard 200 in 1994 and has sold 978,000 copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan.
Black has been incorporating Pixies songs into live performances with his band the Catholics with increasing regularity over the past few years. Songs like "Where Is My Mind?," "Mr. Grieves," "Crackity Jones," "Nimrod's Son," "Holiday Song" and "Gouge Away" have all surfaced in recent setlists, and a version of the latter recorded in April in Regina, Saskatchewan, appears on a new Frank Black & the Catholics EP, "Nadine," licensed this week by spinART exclusively to a number of independent U.S. retailers.
In July, Black told London radio station XFM that he still fantasized about reuniting his old band. "I do dream about the Pixies reunion, I do have to say," he said. "It's like those schoolboy dreams when you don't do your homework and you don't study for the test, but I'm at the gig and we're hanging out, but it's an utter failure and I don't know the songs, and hardly anyone turns up for the gig and people walk out. That's what I'm afraid of, that it'd be a big, big failure."
He added: "We might. We do get together and have private jams together, but not for public consumption."
During the Pixies' career, the group never made a huge commercial dent (their top-selling album is 1989's "Doolitte" at 552,000 copies). But its impact on critics and fans was far reaching. A handful of collections of Pixies material have surfaced during the band's hiatus, including the 1997 Elektra double-CD set "Death to the Pixies," which featured favorites and live compilation discs. Last year, spinART Records released "Pixies," a collection of unreleased songs from the band's original 1987 demo tape.

Flaming Lips news and dates
More than a year after its release, the Flaming Lips' "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots" is getting new life. The Warner Bros. set will be released as a double-disc package on Sept. 23, with the standard album on disc one and a DVD Audio edition on disc two.
A host of bonus tracks and features are included, such as the B-sides "Up Above the Daily Hum" and "I Go Mad," both a Japanese version of the title track and a performance of the cut from "Sessions@AOL" plus a remix and acoustic version of "Do You Realize?"
Disc two features two videos for "Do You Realize?," directed by Mark Pellington and Lips frontman Wayne Coyne, plus a making-of featurette. A trailer for the Lips' long-in-the-works holiday film "Christmas on Mars" is also included.
Meanwhile, the Lips recently spent time with longtime producer Dave Fridmann at his New York studio to record new material and finalize additional remixes. According to the group's official Web site, "the plan was to record two songs connected with the 'Pink Robots' theme, as well as a Christmas-type song of some description."
The cuts will likely surface on another DVD/EP led by the "Yoshimi" track "Ego Tripping at the Gates of Hell," tentatively due Oct. 28 via Warner Bros. The DVD is expected to include live footage, while the EP will also feature the three new songs and the remixes, including one by Peaches.
The Lips are taking a break from the road but will resume their schedule Oct. 2 in Portsmouth, Va., with String Cheese Incident. A U.K. tour begins Oct. 23 in Plymouth.
Here are the Flaming Lips' tour dates:
