Smother Magazine Band Spotlight: Damiera

Damiera
A rare gem and gifted group, Equal Vision Records' latest signee, Damiera shines the light on cerebral, emotional rock that few will 'get' but all will 'feel'. Reaching back to a time when groups like Far weren't thought of as 'emo', Damiera blesses the listener with dense guitar fashioned like the great Hum while their talents speak of more mathematically precise rhythmic rock. Stretching outside of the normal grasps of the hardcore and even indie rock worlds, Damiera breathes deeply into a vacuum of soft melodies, harsh rough-around-the-edges deliveries, and sternly intriguing lyrics. The group's songwriting ability on their magical debut "M(US)IC" (or 'us in music') is an overachievement and while the album's surname may seem a tad pretentious, the content is one that music critics as well as casual fans will harken as one of 2006's most fantastic debuts.
