Smother Magazine Band Spotlight: The Decemberists

Enigmatic indie rockers The Decemberists don't care about what the latest trends are. They fashion their music on gritty and gnarly approaches to songwriting that focus on thematic surges in emotion and notes that tingle of varying degrees of creative juices. Perhaps most invigorating is their album "The Tain", an opus that consists of five separate pieces in one whole long song.
Most bands would shy away from that but The Decemberists led by Colin Meloy never stir and plod forth with some of the most imaginative art rock to come out in recent memory.
