Smother Magazine Band Spotlight: DJ Krush

It's not so much what has DJ Krush done as it is what hasn't he done. As a producer and DJ of some of the most compelling and electrifying hip-hop with a flair for the more lucid trip-hop scene, DJ Krush
consistingly delivers on-the-point and sometimes gritty beats and atmospheres. After forming Krush Posse in 1987, which many still label as the best hip-hop crew ever to come from Japan, Krush went on to pursue a solo career in '92.
He is often hailed as one of the pioneers of live turntablism. With his first solo album aptly titled "Krush", he soon began literally spitting out record by record all across Europe, Japan, and the United States. His last effort "Zen" won Best Dance Album in the AFIM Awards in 2001.
Krush is not only regarded as one of the top-notch DJs in hip-hop but also is crowned one of the best remixers, performers, and producer. His 2003 effort "Shinsou: The Message At the Depth" is both thought-provoking and musically provocative and will be remembered as one of the bright stars of 2003.
