Smother Magazine Band Spotlight: The Streets

The Streets, consisting of one Brit Michael Skinner, are slowly but surely taking the hip-hop scene by storm. Without relying on pimp-talking, thug-life, or other ridiculous facets of the hip-hop community, The Streets talks about real life as a 'geezer' putting a challenge to all the
hip-hop and rap 'artists' out there to see if they too could say something meaningful instead of the usual garbage. Producing one of the most insightful and inspirational albums of this millennium is a daunting task but The Streets do it without so much as a blink of the eye.
Fusing UK Garage with two-step, reggae, spoken word, and even a bit of the Beat poetry to make a new hip-hop sound that is all The Streets but is so imaginative that the lemmings are sure to follow. But that will be what separates The Streets from everyone else--leadership.
