Smother Magazine Band Spotlight: Unearth

What can one say about Unearth that hasn't already been said? The best group to currently bear the label 'metalcore'? It's hard to argue such a statement, as these Massachusetts natives have combined the brutality of death metal with the intensity of hardcore, inspiring hope with meaningful lyrics and brief forays into melody. Those who weren't convinced by the group's stunning debut, The Stings of Conscience have been beaten into submission with the four excruciating cuts delivered on Unearth's latest effort, the Endless MCD. While they may fit with the likes of Killswitch Engage and Atreyu, Unearth are effectively consuming the hardcore scene with their awe-inspiring live performance. With a hefty touring schedule throughout the Northeast heading into December, a month which finds the Unearth boys ravaging the country alongside other blistering acts such as From Autumn to Ashes, The Hope Conspiracy and A Static Lullaby, it is only a matter of time before these musicians are hailed as the scene leaders they rightfully deserve to be. As 2002 nears it's end, Unearth wear the crown every other independent hardcore band has it's eye on, and as far as we here at Smother can tell, they aren't about to remove it anytime soon.
