Smother Magazine Band Spotlight: Paul Oakenfold
Voted the biggest DJ by The Guiness Book of World Records, Paul Oakenfold is certainly not an underground or unknown DJ but with "Bunkka" he establishes himself as a spectular producer and artist. Despite the fact that he's had dozens of mix CDs, he until now has not been fully established as a recording artist until his first CD of all original music called Bunkka was released to critical acclaim.
He's toured the world over fueling clubbers through the late nights and now he will go on tour in support of his first album. "Bunkka" shows off his various influences and his abilities to produce great music that spans genres. He's toured with huge artists such as U2 as well as done his own spotlights and various residencies throughout the world.
Many don't even know that he produced the Happy Monday's "Pills 'N' Thrills and Bellyaches" or that he's remixed not just dance or club music but also music by U2, New Order, The Cure, and soundtracks like "The Planet of the Apes". As if all of his many accomplishments weren't enough he also started his own label - Perfecto - back in 1990 which has had many successful releases.
